With roots in The Woodlands and a background as a stylist for Stitch Fix, Kawata said when she learned the former Teacups and Tadpoles owner was searching for a new owner to take over, she knew she’d found the perfect opportunity.
What they offer
At Teacups and Tadpoles, customers can find children’s clothing ranging from sizes 0-12 with a variety of brands and prices.
“We’ve been working on expanding to have brands that are kind of a higher price point and a lower price point. So anybody can walk into the store and find something that they love for their child,” Kawata said.
Founded in 2004, Caitlin Kawata took ownership of Teacups and Tadpoles in January. (Jovanna Aguilar/Community Impact)With over 20 brands carried, Tea Cups and Tadpoles sources its boutique items from Pink Chicken, Lil Cactus, Hollis Baker, Honey and Riley Crease.
“We’ve really been searching out brands that still have the same quality but are at a more attainable price point,” Kawata said. “We find that the older generation, the grandmas and the grandpas, are willing to spend on the higher price point item, but the moms want to come in and they want to find everyday wear they can buy for their kids.”

Kawata said she is excited to be more involved with the community by hosting several unique events, including monthly events. On the first Friday of each month, Teacups and Tadpoles holds events in which local authors are invited to have story time for children for free.
In addition, at the end of March Kawata plans to hold a moms’ night out event featuring Mahjong instructors in the store along with pizza and wine, and she plans to host a silhouette artist at the end of May. Event information will be available on the business social media pages.
“We are trying to make sure to include a little something for everybody,” Kawata said.
Further expanding its community outreach, Teacups and Tadpoles has donated to The John Cooper School gala and plans to collaborate with other local schools in the future, Kawata said.
