Sharing “Information for British nationals who are victims of rape and sexual assault in Croatia,” the FCDO said: “It is your choice what you do next, but this information may help you in coming to a decision.

“The most important thing is to make sure that you are as safe as you can be. You can contact the international emergency number on 112 and contact your tour operator if you are travelling with one.

“You can contact the British Embassy in Croatia on +385 (0)1 6009 100 or +44 (0)20 7008 500 Consular staff will be empathetic, and non-judgmental, and can provide information on local police and medical procedures.

“Anything you tell them will be treated in the strictest confidence. They can contact your family or friends for you if you wish.

“You can contact Croatian NGOs: please see contact information for relevant Croatian NGOs at the end of this document.”

Spain

The FCDO says: “Be alert to the possible use of ‘date rape’ and other drugs including GHB and liquid ecstasy.

“Buy your own drinks and always keep them in sight to avoid them being spiked. Alcohol and drugs can reduce your vigilance, making you less in control. If you drink, know your limit. Drinks served in bars in Spain are often stronger than those in the UK.”

Portugal

Attacks or assault, including sexual assaults, are rare but do occur. The risk is highest late at night around popular nightlife locations. To reduce your personal risk, keep an eye on each other’s drinks to make sure they do not get spiked, the FCDO says.

Save the location of your accommodation on your maps app, so it’s easier to find at the end of the night, too.

And take a photograph of the name and address of your accommodation to help you find it at the end of the night and set up a group chat to keep in touch with others in your group.

Italy

The FCDO says: “Do not take drinks from strangers or leave your drinks unattended. Victims of spiked drinks have been robbed and sometimes assaulted.

“Alcohol and drugs can reduce your vigilance, making you less in control. If you drink, know your limit. Drinks served in bars in Italy are often stronger than those in the UK.”
