An 18-year-old student from India has been reported missing after he was last seen leaving a friend’s apartment in St Julian’s on Wednesday evening.
Vishav is originally from Barara in northern India and studies at the La Vallette Institute in Ta’ Xbiex. He has not been seen since 18th March, as reported by Times of Malta.
His disappearance has caused growing concern among friends, family and members of Malta’s Indian community.
Indian community leader and General Workers’ Union representative for third-country nationals, Manav Sanger, described the case as “extremely distressing”.
“I have personally been in contact with the family, and their pain and uncertainty are heartbreaking,” Sanger said, adding that relatives were anxiously waiting for updates.
Vishav was reported missing to police on 20th March by his friend Gurpreet Singh, who said the two had shared an evening meal before Vishav left his apartment at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.
According to friends who spoke with Vishav’s family, he later called his parents in India at around 3.30am on Thursday morning and sounded “calm” and “normal”.
Since then, he has not been reachable by phone and social media and has not contacted his family again.
Singh, who became friends with Vishav after both moved to Malta and now live in the same apartment block, said the teenager had appeared to be in good spirits before leaving.
A spokesperson for the La Vallette Institute confirmed that Vishav has not attended classes since the day he went missing.
He is believed to have been wearing a white zip-up jumper at the time. Anyone with information is urged to contact their nearest police station or Gurpreet Singh on +356 99961493.
Sanger urged authorities to intensify efforts to locate the teenager, saying: “Every moment is critical.”
