Today marks the 27th anniversary of the start of NATO bombing of Serbian military positions, which aimed to end the genocide in Kosovo. In this context, MP Tritan Shehu has reflected on the importance of this international commitment and its connection to Albanians.

“Without the US, no one knows in which corner of Serbia Kosovo would be, what the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia and Montenegro would be, what Albania’s relations with NATO would be, what our security levels would be,” Shehu writes on FB.

He also recalled US President Bill Clinton’s speech to the American people, which, according to him, served as a prelude to “salvation, liberation, freedom and peace in Kosovo.” Shehu adds that this was also a prelude to the declaration of Kosovo’s independence, which was later announced by President George W. Bush in Tirana, alongside Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

The MP also emphasized the impact of these events on democratic changes in the region. “Being accompanied by democratic changes in North Macedonia, towards the fundamental rights of Albanians there. Leading the entire Albanian nation towards freedom, Europe, the West and NATO,” he writes.

Shehu underlined that Albanians should not forget the support of the US in difficult situations: This is one more reason why we should all be by the side of the US in its geopolitics, in its interventions in extremely difficult areas. Always in the service of peace, stability, the fight against terrorism, radicalism and extremism.

Concluding the message, Shehu emphasizes that support for the US remains vital even in difficult times, facing global challenges and authoritarian regimes. “Therefore, we must all stand unwaveringly by the side of the US even in these difficult times in the confrontation between Washington and President Trump, with criminal regimes like that of the ayatollahs,” the MP concludes.
