On Tuesday, March 24th, the Cabinet of Ministers (CM) approved amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations proposed by the Ministry of Transport (MoT). One of the areas subject to stricter regulations is bicycles and electric scooters, including a ban on self-propelled bicycles on pavements.

The new regulations are scheduled to take effect on April 1st of this year.

To protect vulnerable road users, stricter conditions have been established for cyclists and electric scooter riders when travelling on pavements, crosswalks, and pedestrian paths, including a provision that motorised bicycles or self-propelled bicycles are not permitted on pavements.

The amendments will improve accessibility for people with disabilities: the group of individuals eligible to receive a disabled parking permit will be expanded based on their actual care needs.

The new regulations provide for traffic lights with white signals designated for public transport, which will allow public transport to move independently of general traffic flow, thereby enhancing its safety and regularity.
