Train station in Germany’s Kaiserslautern reopens after bomb threat

Authorities closed down the central train station at Kaiserslautern in western Germany on Tuesday following a bomb threat.

The train station reopened after several hours, with police reporting that “following a thorough search of the station by police officers and specialist dogs, no suspicious objects were found.”

Another threat was directed at the Westpfalz hospital, where police gave the all-clear in the evening.

Police spokesman Bernhard Christian Erfort explained: “Hospitals require a particularly sensitive and coordinated approach. For tactical reasons, the police are therefore not providing any details of the measures taken.”

An evacuation of the hospital was not necessary.

Police said a telephone threat was received at a police station shortly before 5 pm (1600 GMT) on Tuesday afternoon.

The main station was evacuated as a precaution and was cordoned off over a wide area, with train services suspended.

The second threat to the hospital followed about an hour later.
