LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Universities of Wisconsin leaders announced a new free online artificial intelligence course designed to introduce the basics of generative AI technologies to all Wisconsinites.
The course series features seven brief videos, each approximately two minutes long, that explain what artificial intelligence is, how it is being used, and the opportunities and challenges the technology presents. The educational initiative aims to provide accessible AI education to anyone interested in understanding this rapidly evolving field.
Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman announced the course Tuesday UW Credit Union Branch Manager Bradley Jensen, UW-La Crosse Chancellor James Beeby and AI Integration Technologist Emily Laird.
Rothman emphasized the course’s focus on data protection and practical AI applications during the announcement.
“When you look at the modules there are several that explain how to protect your data, how do you protect your data to make sure that is protected,” Rothman said.
The course series serves as an entry point for students and community members who want to explore artificial intelligence before pursuing more advanced coursework. The introductory series connects to additional AI courses offered across the state’s 13 public universities through a dedicated Universities of Wisconsin webpage.
“AI is going to impact our lives, its coming at us all from all different angles. And that is the purpose of the course to provide that basic information on AI,” Rothman said.
