Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia has said that the Maltese Parliament has “no security.”

Passing a comment in Parliament, Farrugia addressed PN MP Darren Carabott after the latter completed his adjournment speech. Carabott in his speech said that barriers should not be placed around Parliament. “It is not the place for barriers.” Carbott said he knows the Speaker has insisted on a security plan for the building and that he agrees with that, but also said that the visual message must also be sent, that Parliament does not have “frontiers”.

The Speaker, following the MP’s speech, said: “I think you know that the Maltese Parliament, unfortunately, is the only Parliament in the world that has no security. And obviously there is a plan for it to have security. The barriers are the least thing to have a bit of security.”
