South Korea’s professional baseball league will enter its 45th season this weekend on the heels of South Korea’s feat of advancing into the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic(WBC) for the first time in 17 years.

The 2026 Korea Baseball Organization(KBO) League season will kick off on Saturday with opening games set to be held at the home stadiums of the teams that ranked in the top five last year. They are the LG Twins, Hanwha Eagles, Samsung Lions, SSG Landers and NC Dinos.

Each team will play in 144 games for a total of 720 matches.

The top five teams in the regular season will advance to the postseason, where the final winning team will be determined via playoffs.

The nation’s professional baseball league topped the ten million mark in attendance for the first time ever in 2024. A new record was again posted last year when the cumulative attendance surpassed 12 million.
