Shamakhi, March 23, AZERTAC

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the new building of the Shamakhi European Lyceum, constructed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, on March 23.

AZERTAC reports that Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President, briefed the head of state on the conditions created at the lyceum. It was noted that the previous building of the European Lyceum was built in 1937. As the facility’s building, which was reconstructed in 1987, had become unusable over time, a new lyceum building was constructed following the instructions of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. This educational institution, consisting of seven blocks with three and four stories, is one of the largest schools in the district with a capacity of 1,200 students. The lyceum is equipped with necessary furniture and equipment, while subject rooms and laboratories are provided with visual aids.

The facility features more than 50 classrooms, physics, chemistry, and biology laboratories, informatics and STEAM rooms, military training, medical, and labor training rooms, a library, a canteen, assembly and sports halls, as well as an outdoor sports ground. The new building was constructed within the framework of the “New School for a Renewing Azerbaijan” program implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The development of the education sector remains a top priority of state policy in Azerbaijan. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation significantly contributes to the work carried out at the state level in this direction. Under the Foundation’s “New School for a Renewing Azerbaijan” program, more than 500 schools have been commissioned across the country to date. The implementation of such projects in the regions, alongside the capital Baku, creates comprehensive conditions for students living in rural areas to receive high-level education and master the secrets of science. This initiative serves as a clear demonstration of the overall progress and modernization of the educational infrastructure throughout the Republic of Azerbaijan.
