The government will provide customized services to vulnerable older adults and disabled people in their homes rather than in hospitals or other facilities.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on Thursday that the “integrated community care system” will be implemented across the nation’s 229 cities, counties and districts starting Friday.

The system will provide customized services to people 65 or older who require assistance due to age, disability or disease.

Such services will also be provided to disabled patrons with significant needs, including those with brain injuries.

Regional governments will evaluate individuals’ health status and capacity to complete essential activities, then tailor services based on their findings.

Previously, such groups had to request a search and apply for each service individually. During that process, applicants had to stay at nursing homes or similar facilities if a service disruption occurred.
