STRILA 2 interceptor drones set to hunt Shaheds in seconds
Ukraine is expanding its air defense with the upgraded STRILA 2 interceptor drone, developed by WIY Drones in cooperation with Germany’s Quantum Systems. The system introduces a rocket booster that launches the drone almost vertically, reaching several kilometers in altitude within seconds before switching to efficient electric flight.
This setup allows the drone to position above targets like Shahed and ZALA drones and strike from the most vulnerable angle. The onboard AI enables autonomous target recognition and engagement, keeping the interceptor on course even if electronic warfare disrupts communication.
The project is already backed by German funding, with 15,000 STRILA family interceptors ordered for Ukraine’s National Guard and production scaling inside Ukraine to speed up delivery and upgrades.
Instead of relying solely on expensive Patriot or IRIS T missiles, these interceptors offer a far cheaper way to take down Shaheds, Orlan, and other drones, taking down more drones at a fraction of the price.

Godspeed! It could kill the target with ugliness alone. Jk!

From being almost overrun to leading drone manufacturers. Well done Ukraine. Slava Ukraini.
Sad the innovation was necessary; great that Ukraine is pioneering the future of defensive tactics to protect people.
u/EntangledReality since we recently wrote about it, here it is.
Now that booster-assisted launch with top-kill capacities is available, air-launch from crewed rotorcraft would be another useful feature.
Ukraine is becoming a powerhouse in proven battlefield tech. It was the major developer and exporter for rockets in the Soviet Block. Now it’s changing the Battlefield in cheap robotics, putting established players on notice.
Crazy bananas …
Drumpf says Ukraine is the last country he needs help from. Then Iran uses Shaheds to attack our planes in Saudi Arabia. In the last few hours, news that our ships may have been hit in port in Kuwait. Because Trump and his gang is so, so stupid, here we are apparently naive to the modern drone-dependent mode of war. US is gonna take some hard hits until we catch up.
Top speed 87m/s. My guess is that it takes ca 30s to reach 2km altitude. Extremely fast but not instantaneous. If the target has the same speed you need to launch when the target is more than 2km away and more than 30s away. Early warning system is crucial.
No I am not an expert, just trying to make some basic calculations.
I feel like these speed focused drones will make it into anti vehicle and infantry roles eventually aswell.
