BRUNSWICK, N.Y. (WNYT) – A Malta man is in custody after police say he hit a school worker at Tamarac High School.

On January 21, New York State Police responded to Tamarac High School for reports of an altercation.
Police say Michael J. Torturo, 41, struck a school maintenance worker in front of a child under 16 following a verbal dispute. The employee was taken to Samaritan Hospital for treatment.
Torturo allegedly left the scene after the altercation, leading to a search. Police issued an arrest warrant on January 23.
On March 27, police located Torturo in Cohoes where he was arrested. He is charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and menacing.

Torturo was taken to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
