ŽMINJ, Croatia, 30 March 2026 – A traditional Easter sweet bread baked in the heart of Istria has captured global attention after a record-breaking pinca weighing more than 69 kilograms was created at a popular local festival.
The giant pinca was baked by Zdenka Jakus during the 13th edition of the event Istrijanske pinci pod čerepnjon na ugnjišće, held in the picturesque Istrian village of Žminj.
Her creation weighed an impressive 69.25 kilograms, surpassing last year’s record by more than four kilograms and making it the largest pinca ever baked.
The achievement has now been nominated for inclusion in the Guinness World Records.

Pinca is a traditional Croatian Easter sweet bread which has been prepared for centuries as part of Easter celebrations.
While pincas are normally modest in size, Jakus’ extraordinary version turned the humble festive bread into a spectacle that drew visitors and media attention.
The event in Žminj was far more than just a baking record.
Visitors enjoyed a rich cultural and artistic programme, along with a small fair featuring local family farms (OPGs) where regional products and homemade delicacies were on offer.

Guests also had the chance to taste freshly baked pincas, experience local traditions and take part in the popular egg-tapping tournament, a classic Easter game in Croatia where participants compete to crack each other’s eggs.
Organisers highlighted the strong sense of community behind the gathering.
“From the heart, thank you to everyone who came, participated and supported our event ‘Istrijanske pinci pod čerepnjon’. Your presence, smiles and good energy made this event special and unforgettable,” organisers said.
They added that events like this serve as an important reminder of the value of preserving local traditions.
“Such gatherings remind us how important it is to stay united, preserve our traditions and pass them on to new generations. Through companionship, joy and homemade delicacies, we once again showed how rich our heritage truly is.”
