Yeah, that would be a war crime and Iran would blow up Qatar, Saudi, Kuwati, and everyone else’s desal plants and millions would die and the US economy would collapse and it would probably mean nuclear war.
Then Trump will say “No one had any idea!”

This is a great way to get Iran trying to blow dirty bombs on the American mainland. American or Israel killing civilians will create generations of terrorists.

Inviting Iran to blow up the Israeli and Gulf State desalination plants. I’m pretty sure they have more dependence on desalination than Iran.

And in response, Iran would destroy all of the desalination plants in the Middle East, causing the worst refugee crisis in human history as over 150 million people would suddenly have no access to water.
Edit: correction for population

Dang. I hate the IRCG and Iranian regime as much as anyone, but this sort of action would kill of millions of innocent Iranians.
And it plays right into the regime’s trap, as they do not give a dang. Heck they’ll set it up so all the regime opponents die of thirst, while the regime loyalist gets all the water.

Per the googler :
deliberately attacking desalination plants is considered a war crime under international humanitarian law. As objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, specifically regarding drinking water, their destruction is prohibited by Article 54 of the 1977 Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.

Legal Protections: Desalination plants are classified as “objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population,” meaning they are protected from direct attacks, destruction, or disruption, even if they have some military function.
Significance of Water: In arid regions like the Persian Gulf, these plants are critical for providing drinking water to millions. Attacks on them can cause disproportionate civilian suffering, making them unlawful.
Legal Ramifications: Targeting such infrastructure can be prosecuted as a war crime, and such acts have historically led to severe international condemnation and liability for damages, such as in the 1991 Gulf War.
I love when our president admits he wants to commit war crimes.

Iran can easily survive without desalination plants. They are used for only about 3% of their water needs.

Iran attacked a desalination plant in Kuwait today and hit one in Bahrain back on March 8th.
This is just as much of a war crime if Israel or the USA hitting similar plants in Iran.
This is why starting wars without clear objectives or an understanding of potential consequences are a terrible fucking idea.
It’s almost like previous US administrations knew that attacking Iran could potentially unleash a clusterfuck that wasn’t worth the chance to take out a brutal repressive regime.
Because things can quickly spiral out of control and stopping the war becomes infinitely harder than starting it.
It’s almost like geopolitics isn’t a video game or a reality show…
The world economy now hinges on the actions of a bunch of amateurish sycophants serving a narcissistic idiot and a regime of fundamentalist radicals who don’t flinch at killing tens of thousands of their own populace for protesting.

You can’t prevent something that has already happened. You can report that the fact the President is threatening war crimes.
Keep in mind, much of this is for the population later. If he does it, there will be hell to pay. Every person involved will be held accountable. Pardons don’t do crap against international courts.
So, if it happens and many years from now you hear about US Service Members being court-martialed or other members of the administration being extradited to the hague you cannot be surprised.
