Ciaran Doyle previews Tuesday’s UEFA World Cup Play-Off Path D final between Czechia and Denmark.
The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues on Tuesday as the play-off final between Czechia and Denmark will see one of these two teams book their spot in this summer’s tournament.
The winner of this game will enter Group A of the World Cup alongside Mexico, South Africa and South Korea.
Denmark are +105 favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook for this one, with a draw available at +225. Fancy a Czechia upset? They are +300 on the moneyline.
Denmark are -200 to advance, while Czechia are listed at +155.
In the FIFA World Rankings, Czechia are ranked #43 while Denmark sit at #20.
Czechia survived a scare against Ireland in the semi-final, turning around a 2-0 deficit to advance on a penalty shoot-out.
On the other hand, Denmark had a comfortable semi-final, taking down North Macedonia 4-0. It was goalless at the end of the first half before the Danes turned it up a notch in the second and netted four times.
Although this game is on the road, Denmark should have enough to beat the Czechs. Despite finishing second in their UEFA World Cup qualifying group by just two points to Scotland, they only lost one of their six games. They won three and drew two of the other five matches, finishing with the best goal difference in Group C.
Czechia had a much easier campaign, finishing second to Croatia but beating out the Faroe Islands, Montenegro and Gibraltar in Group L.
These teams last met up in Euro 2020, and it was Denmark who left with a 2-1 victory. In the five meetings between the teams since 2010, Czechia have failed to win on all five occasions.
With this game being played in Prague, expect a closely contested contest. Denmark simply just have too many quality Premier League proven players, such as Rasmus Højlund, Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Nørgaard, who will likely prove to be the difference.
