So I have a shift in Easter and I’m getting paid double. It’s public holiday so lot of get paid time off but considering I work during that day and get paid double, do I lose my holiday or I’ll get another day off?

    1. Depends on your job, I work at a hospital and I always get extra days off on the 3 week lists if I work holidays.

Basically every list has 6 days off in total, but if there’s holidays that are outside of a weekend then you have an extra day off.

At least how it works for me

    2. Not in Finland, no. Very few countries are as generous as Luxemburg when it comes to the public holidays.

    3. You lose any right to alternative time off if you receive double pay during a holiday.

*The law does technically allow employers to give their workers more time off if they want to. Usually this would happen through a collective agreement (työehtosopimus, TES). But highly unlikely since you receive that cash money double pay.

    4. In most cases you just get paid more. That’s the compensation for losing the day off. I can’t know your specific circumstances, so you really should be asking whoever is responsible for your work schedule.

Since you got paid double, you lose your holiday or it is as if it never existed but you get the extra pay. But for example a factory where we dont regularly work on holidays, sometimes we can switch. If there is a holiday on thursday, if enough people want to, we can instead of thrusday off, have friday off and work on thursday without extra pay.
