Punahou students showcased their curiosity, creativity and teamwork at the Hawaii Elementary Science Olympiad on Saturday, Mar. 28, earning an impressive first-place overall finish. Held at Highlands Intermediate, the competition brought together teams from seven elementary schools to compete in 12 STEM-focused events.

Team “Science Pirates,” made up of 37 Punahou students in grades 3 – 5, participated in each of the events offered at the competition: A is for Anatomy, Barge Building, Codebusters, Describe It Build It, Don’t Bug Me, Genius Guessers, Minerals Rock!, Mystery Architecture, Pasta Mobile, Science Pictionary, Star Power and Straw Egg Drop.

The Science Pirates delivered strong performances across multiple events, demonstrating both scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills. Their collective effort secured the top overall ranking in the competition.

Beyond the results, students gained valuable hands-on experience and enjoyed the opportunity to apply their learning in a fun, collaborative environment. The team’s success reflects their dedication, enthusiasm and passion for science and engineering.
