The households of Japan’s Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko appear to be in “dire financial straits” despite a doubling of their living allowances to 120 million yen per year in 2025 and publicly paid servants. There is speculation they are sending a lot of money to the Komuros in New York

  1. Surely there’s got to be restrictions around using their taxpayer-funded allowances to fund the lifestyle of two private citizens performing no official duties.

  2. Is the family paying Inheritance Taxes as each generation passes on? That’s one big bill due for the Imperial Palace.

Im surprised their allowed is only 120M after doubling it !
Can you imagine a European or other Asian royalty living on so little

  4. $120,000,000 yen is about $USD755,000 or $CAD1mil.
I can see why such pittance amount would put someone in dire financial straits. /S

  5. “Komuro, 31, graduated from New York City’s Fordham University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in May 2021. He and Emperor Naruhito’s 31-year-old niece have been living in the city since late 2021.”

Are they both unemployed? What exactly are they doing over there?

  6. What is the general public’s stance toward them? Any youtube videos on them always have some saccharin piano soundtrack and a load of Royalist love in the comments, rather different than a report on say, the British Monarchy which are always full of ‘waste of our taxes’ ‘not my King’ type stuff.

  7. If the Japanese royals send money to support a member of their family living in NYC, and if the new transplants are mindless, and living like they print money 🤑, then 120-milli-yen, aka peasant coins, can run dry with ease.

Also having and taking of babies is very expensive and the little one will be expected to receive the best quality of life, anywhere on earth, due to their lineage.

The husband, Kei, is a lawyer at a prominent law firm, and Lady Komuro (Mako) is said to be volunteering (Unpaid) in research or curatorial support at the NY MET.

Upstate NY could be more economical, amongst the old money and hippies, but they’re young and starting their development in career and family, so NYC is fitting for the moment.

  8. No offense but if Komuro Kei succeds as a corporate lawyer in NY he will easily be making more than 120million jpy a year

It’s so hard to be emperor. Should consider abdication and living a normal life with a normal salary. No wait… I was joking 😃

Isn’t this the parents of the royal couple (the Komuro’s) who live in NYC and the husband’s mother was known to have borrowed money from people she seduced and never paid back?

    Grifters gotta grift.

Huh. I thought that geezer kid became a lawyer in NYC. Why is he still begging coin from his in-laws.

Unless what my mental students were saying all along is true and that he just married her to bum off her status.

  12. Remind me what they do again?

Except live off the taxpayers and spend a great deal of money

How about they post the budget of where all this money is going, and then we’ll talk about their “dire financial situation”.
