The 2026 Brownie Awards is now open for nominations!
Dedicated to the rehabilitation and revitalization of sites that were once contaminated, under-utilized, and undeveloped, the Brownie Awards provide annual recognition of brownfield work in Canada. Renewed residential, commercial and park projects are proven to contribute to the growth and resilience of healthy cities and communities.
This year, the Brownie Awards are introducing an exciting NEW category—REMOTE—which recognizes outstanding initiatives in remote, rural and Indigenous brownfield projects.

The 2026 Brownie Awards will be held at Fairmont Royal York Toronto.
The first Brownie Awards was held in 2000 with the official founding in 2001 by the Canadian Urban Institute. The goal of the awards program is to recognize the innovative efforts of brownfield professionals.

As an annual celebration of excellence in the remediation and redevelopment of brownfield sites across Canada, the Brownie Awards are presented in partnership by the Canadian Brownfields Network and SiteMedia.
Don’t miss your chance to showcase your project or nominate someone making an important impact! It’s time to celebrate the innovators, changemakers, and leaders transforming brownfield sites into vibrant, sustainable communities across Canada.
Check out the nomination guidelines and gather your project details, category info, and supporting images before submitting. The awards will be presented at the Fairmont Royal York Toronto on November 24, 2026. Award winners will be featured in Environment Journal.
