Lithuania will receive the Kongsberg medium-range National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) for the air defence of its 1st Division in April 2026. Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence (Krašto apsaugos ministerija: MND) announced the delivery in a press release on 31 March 2026, adding that the air defence battery is expected to reach its initial operational capability (IOC) by the end of 2026.

Lithuania is also procuring Saab mobile short-range air defence (MSHORAD) systems for the division’s brigades. Deliveries of these systems are planned for 2027.

Lithuania signed a EUR234 million (nearly USD252.7 million) contract with Kongsberg for additional NASAMS III units on 3 October 2024. It also signed a EUR130 million contract with Saab for MSHORAD on 1 October 2024.

The NASAMS contract includes updates and improvements to NASAMS systems ordered earlier based on Ukraine’s experience with the systems that the Baltic state had donated to it, in addition to the delivery of additional launchers, radars, and fire control centres. Kongsberg said at the time that NASAMS’s modularity and open architecture allow the continuous introduction of new technology, ensuring that the system can adapt to new threats and missions throughout its lifetime. The NASAMS contract includes updates to the systems ordered in October 2024.
