Bulgaria’s caretaker Youth and Sports Minister, Dimitar Iliev, Thursday met with Albania’s National Youth Agency Director Sara Bodo, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria with her team.

The visit is part of a joint project between the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Albanian agency. The project aims to strengthen Albania’s administrative capacity in youth policy, supporting the country’s European Union accession negotiations. It is funded under the 2024 official development assistance, administered by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Iliev outlined the main priorities of Bulgaria’s youth policy and presented current national programmes. Both sides discussed opportunities for deepening cooperation and exchanging best practices in youth policy.

Bodo highlighted Albania’s experience as a host of the Giro d’Italia, emphasizing the event’s benefits for tourism and sports. Iliev noted that a similar effect is anticipated from the forthcoming hosting of the event in Bulgaria.

As part of the visit, the Albanian delegation toured youth centres in Gabrovo and Pernik, learning about local best practices for engaging young people.
