CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel (14-16) dropped the series finale, 5-1, to Longwood (19-13) on Saturday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Lane Tobin went 3-for-3 at the plate, setting a season high. Tobin also drew a walk and stole a base. Carson Hodges finished 2-for-4, matching his season best. Sam Dansky had the only run for The Citadel on a sacrifice fly.

On the mound, Bryce Colter delivered a clean inning to start, facing three batters and striking out one without allowing any hits or runs. Andrew Bowers followed with two innings, giving up three hits but keeping Longwood scoreless. Riley Ballard was impressive over two innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, and striking out four. Zane Davis pitched an inning, walking two but maintaining a no-hit frame.

Andrew Buffkin allowed four hits and three earned runs to take the loss. In the eighth, Liam Foley and CJ Van Slooten combined for an inning, with Foley giving up two hits and two unearned runs, and Van Slooten issuing two walks. Steven Trone finished the game with a quick ninth inning, needing just seven pitches to retire the side without a baserunner.

For the Lancers, Jae’den Carter went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Max Lawson drove in two runs. Drew Siegner earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four hits, no unearned runs, and striking out two. JR Fordham secured the save with 2.2 innings pitched and five strikeouts.

“Tough day offensively. Their starter mixed just three pitches and pitched effectively. We never adjusted and struggled to execute all day,” said head coach Russell Triplett. “I thought we pitched very well for six innings. Too many free bases and a couple of mental mistakes at the end cost us. We will regroup and prepare for a new week.”

Next up, the Bulldogs will take on Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
