A renewed security measure at Poland’s borders will remain in place through early October. Officials cite security concerns and efforts to curb illegal migration.

Poland has extended border controls along the sections of the border with Germany and Lithuania until October 1, 2026. This decision was published in an official release by the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs on the social network X.

The agency stressed that the controls will run from April 5 to October 1, 2026, and their aim is to strengthen security and counter illegal migration. According to the agency, responsibility for border security lies with the border guards, the police, and the Territorial Defence Forces.

Timeline and Context of the Border Control Extension

Border controls on the sections with Germany and Lithuania were introduced on July 7, 2025; since then they have been extended several times.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland, migration from Belarus to the country since 2022 has decreased by about 96%.
