
Become a donor if you are:
- healthy, rested and fed
- weighing more than 50 kg
- 18-65 years old (the age of the donor must be 18-60 years old at the first blood donation)
- A citizen of the Republic of Estonia or has lived in Estonia on the basis of a residence permit/right of residence for at least the last three months
You are not suitable as a donor if you are:
- infected with the HIV virus or think you may be a carrier of the HIV virus
- have had or been infected with hepatitis B or C or think you are a carrier of the hepatitis virus (NB! In the case of hepatitis A, blood can be donated a year after recovery)
- was an injecting drug user
- had sex for money or drugs
There is a restriction on donating blood for sexual partners of persons belonging to the risk group four months.
Blood donation restrictions apply to people who have sexual contacts with more than one partner, casual relationships and a new sexual partner four months.
You are temporarily ineligible to be a donor if:
- you are currently suffering from an illness
- you have consumed alcohol before or on the same day of donating blood
- in the past year, you have traveled to exotic countries where malaria or other infections that rarely occur in Estonia occur
- You or your partner have had blood transfusions in the last four months, you or your partner have undergone acupuncture, had tattoos or skin piercings done. Skin piercing procedures carry the risk of viral infection, which is transferred to the patient through the donor’s blood.
