Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, highlighted centuries of close ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan, noting that today the two nations have a strategic partnership.
During a joint press statement with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, Kobakhidze noted the dynamic progress of collaboration between the two countries, adding that he was glad the cooperation was developing across various areas, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Our peoples have been closely connected for centuries, and the logical continuation of this is that today a strategic partnership exists between the two countries,” he added.
Reflecting on the significance of the Azerbaijani President’s visit, Kobakhidze remarked: “He (President Ilham Aliyev – ed.) is a valued friend of Georgia, and a visit by the President of Azerbaijan here is always a great honor for us.”
He also pointed out that the meeting provided an opportunity to address important topics, saying, “We took the opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations and the processes in the region.”
Kobakhidze further expressed Tbilisi and Baku’s intent to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
In a social media post, he wrote: “Honored to host H.E. Ilham Aliyev and the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tbilisi. We highlighted our close partnership, the importance of peace and stability in the region, and opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in areas of mutual interest.”
