ZAGREB, 7 April 2026 (Hina) – Croatia’s Ministry of Demography and Immigration has opened a public call worth €25,000 to help Croatian emigrants and their families cover the cost of translating foreign higher education qualifications into Croatian.

The scheme aims to support members of the Croatian diaspora returning to the country by reducing administrative barriers related to the recognition of overseas qualifications.

The call will remain open until 30 November 2026, or until the available funds are fully allocated.

Who can apply

Funding is available to:

• Croatian emigrants

• Descendants of Croatian emigrants

• Family members of Croatian emigrants

Applicants must either hold Croatian citizenship or be individuals without citizenship who have been granted temporary or permanent residence in Croatia for the purpose of immigration and return.

Eligible applicants must also have completed higher education abroad.

What the funding covers

The Ministry will cover the cost of translating documentation proving foreign higher education qualifications into Croatian.

This may include:

• University diplomas

• Certificates of higher education

• Full curricula or course programmes from foreign higher education institutions, where required

The funding applies regardless of the type of recognition procedure or profession linked to the qualification.

Translation requirements

Translations must be carried out by a certified court interpreter for the language in which the qualification was issued.

Translations can also be completed abroad, provided that the interpreter officially links the original document with the Croatian translation and certifies its accuracy.

Application process

Applications must be submitted exclusively in electronic form by email to the Ministry here.

Applicants need to download and complete the official electronic application form available on the Ministry’s website.

For additional information, enquiries can be sent to: [email protected]

Results publication

After the decision on funding allocations is made, the Ministry will publish the results of the public call on its official website.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to encourage the return of Croatian emigrants and facilitate their integration into the domestic labour market by easing the process of recognising foreign qualifications.
