An Andorran judge is investigating several LaLiga footballers over alleged purchases of smuggled luxury watches, reportedly including a current Villarreal player and several former ones. Judge Joan Carles Moynat has opened inquiries into Primera División players, and the Guardia Civil has begun sending information requests.
According to elDiario.es, Andorra’s prosecutor has asked the Guardia Civil’s UCO to assist, with statements from footballers and businessmen due next week.
Andorran investigators are also targeting Principality-based company ‘Best In Asociados’, alleged to have sold high-end watches without paying the required taxes. A Spanish company allegedly bought the pieces from domestic distributors, formally imported them to its Andorran arm, then resold them to players to avoid VAT, exploiting local deductions to secure an illegal margin.
The magistrate has requested Spain’s cooperation to question those based in the country, among them the footballers who purchased the watches and seven Spanish individuals or firms who sold them to the Andorran company that later resold them to players.
