Heya guys! I just recently started a new remote job so I wanted to ask what’s it like living in Brno? my salary would be around 2850 euros net per month from what I calculated so I wanted to know how good of a life you can live in Brno with that

to add a bit more about me, I’m 20, male, Mediterranean (I look Cypriot apparantly), and also queer.

  1. Brno is chill city. Not as busy as Prague, but still quite lively and with good nightlife. Brno is not cheap, but your salary is decent.

  2. brno is great, and salary more than adequate your age, you will have a nice life there

Brno is a cozy place, compared to Prague everything is close. Historical centre, lot of parks. Quite a lot of nature outside the city, many bike routes, close to South Moravia with wondelful wine. I live here more than 20 years, and wouldn´t change. With that budget you will be able to save a good portion 😉

  4. Driving down the D1 highway, you take a massive curve, and accidentally end up in Europe’s largest village. Idk if they have internet but they have the biggest dildo in the world. The best thing about Brno is a direct train to Prague.

Lived as an expat in Brno. It was great. Very lively, lots of stuff to do, but doesn’t feel overcrowded.

  6. I live in Prague currently and I kinda miss Brno (I studied there). It’s much more walkable, way fewer scams and overpriced shit, great universities and libraries. Perfect city for students.

To reply a bit more seriously than some of the comments here:

Brno is very fun. HOWEVER, it is basically an oversized village I’m going to be honest, most of what makes Brno fun will not be accessible to you if you don’t speak Czech and don’t make local friends. It’s not like in Prague where there’s a ton of stuff aimed at international people. You might get lonely or bored quite quickly without speaking the language. If you don’t intend to learn Czech, I suggest you move to Prague instead.

Your salary is correct but your savings target is extremely ambitious and, frankly, unrealistic. You will probably spend more than you think if you want to live comfortably (in the city center, in a nice flat, going out regularly, sightseeing…) Brno (and Czechia in general) isn’t that cheap. That was like 15 years ago. So with your salary, you can live in Brno pretty comfortably but you won’t save as much as you want – or you can live like a stingy rat and not do anything/see anything but in that case I don’t really see the point of moving abroad.

with 2850 net you should live pretty comfortably in Brno, especially if you’re single and not trying to rent something huge right in the center

it’s generally seen as a good city for students and young people, more relaxed than Prague but still lively, and for your age it could be a pretty good fit

  9. Large enough to always be able to find some event, although not always something you would be interested in

But also small enough to be safe and chill

Also many people say we have really good public transport system

For me personally the best thing is that you can go from city center to a forest in less than 30 minutes

  10. At first you say “Brrrr!” , but after while “No, tak zlý to není.” and that is why it is called Brno.

Brno is really nice. Still a big city but more authentic than Prague. Btw just out of curiosity, how are you making that much at 20 years old?

  12. I miss it. I spent the better part of my life there, living in absolute center, on the outskirts, close by, now about 30km out. Good nightlife, a lot of communities you can join freely, and all of them are welcoming.

Fair share of nice restaurants(not like Prague though), 2h to Prague airport/Vienna airport/BTS/ 2:30 to Katowice, but also kinda usable BRQ airport – though of course very limited.

Buying property is expensive, renting is imo fairly cheap compared to property price.

It really used to be student city, fairly dead in the summer when slovaks went back home from school, but that kinda changed since covid, and since UA war.

I spend the lot of time working in ~ 10 EU cities, Brno is imo great mix of price/safe/job opportunities/expat acceptance
