Abdixhiku: Engel’s contribution is indelible, Kosovo lost a great friend

Lumir Abdixhiku, chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, has reacted to the death of Eliot Engel, saying that the latter was a great friend of Kosovo.
Engel, Abdixhiku added, was one of the most powerful voices in the decisive years for the fate of the people of Kosovo.
“He never backed down at any critical moment; on the contrary, he stood firm, with unwavering conviction, on the right side of history. His unwavering commitment to Kosovo places him among the greatest friends we have ever had,” he said.
Post:
I was saddened by the news of the passing of a great friend of Kosovo, Congressman Eliot Engel.
In the most decisive years for the fate of our people, he was one of the strongest and most determined voices in defense of our right to freedom. He did not retreat at any critical moment; on the contrary, he stood strong, with unwavering conviction, on the right side of history. His unwavering commitment to Kosovo places him among the greatest friends we have ever had.
His special relationship with the Historic President Ibrahim Rugova and his strong support for the vision of a free, independent and democratic Kosovo are evidence of a rare and sincere commitment. He was not just a political ally, he was a true friend of our people. His decoration by President Rugova with the Gold Medal of Freedom in 2004 was a small symbol compared to the greatness of his contribution.
Congressman Eliot Engel’s contribution to affirming the truth about Kosovo and strengthening our enduring bond with the United States is extraordinary and indelible.
Today, Kosovo has lost a great friend. But his deeds, words, and dedication will live forever in the foundations of our state.
My deepest condolences to the Engel family, the American people, and all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
