As Croatia prepares for another busy tourism season, expectations among seasonal workers are continuing to rise, with new research revealing growing demands for higher wages and better conditions.

According to a survey conducted by Alma Career Croatia, the company behind the MojPosao platform, workers now expect a minimum average monthly net salary of €1,518 for seasonal jobs in 2026.

This marks a 9% increase compared to last year’s €1,390.

Seasonal work remains deeply embedded in Croatia’s labour market. The survey found that 76% of respondents have worked at least one seasonal job, often along the Adriatic coast.

For many, it represents a first step into employment, a chance to earn additional income, or an opportunity to gain valuable skills and language experience.

Hospitality continues to dominate the sector, with 59% of respondents having worked in this field, followed by tourism (24%) and retail (21%).

Other sectors such as maintenance, logistics and transport also play a role.

When choosing employers, workers prioritise job security and accommodation over salary alone.

A secure income (46%) and provided housing (43%) are the two most important factors, reflecting the mobile nature of seasonal work.

Despite challenges, the appeal remains strong. Nearly 70% of respondents highlight skill development as the biggest benefit, while over half value meeting new people and earning higher seasonal wages.

Working by the sea is also a key motivator.

However, concerns persist. Poor accommodation, short contract durations and time away from family remain major drawbacks. Many also point to intense workloads and insufficient pay relative to the demands.

Wage expectations vary by role, with chefs seeking nearly €2,000 per month and waiters around €1,590.

Drivers have seen the largest increase in expectations, demanding over 50% more than their standard salaries.
