Adaptive Sports New England is bringing children with mobility and visual impairments together through sports, helping them build confidence and excel. Catholic Memorial High School’s track in West Roxbury is where the group has been training for the Youth Mile on April 18, held ahead of the Boston Marathon. “It’s so good to see them at such a young age getting involved in sports,” said Osayi Erhabor, a board member of Adaptive Sports New England. “It’s been building his confidence. Before joining, he had a hard time, other mates in his class don’t have the disability he has. Now he is in a program where he can excel and thrive.”Delmace Mayo, who will be racing in his second Boston Marathon, shared his thoughts on the program’s impact. “It’s really important because I feel like if I never got in a race at that age, I probably wouldn’t be doing this right now. This is the sport I love the most,” Mayo said. Mayo, who began in the program as a child, is now inspiring the next generation by showing what is possible when opportunities are embraced.
