13:05. Slovenian biathlon has appointed Italy’s Armin Auchentaller as the national team’s head coach, the federation has announced.
The coach, who hails from Antholz, one of the world’s leading biathlon centres, will be supported by Rok Trsan. Together, they will be responsible for structuring the work of the Slovenian teams and supporting their medium- and long-term development.
An experienced technician, Armin Auchentaller has a solid international background. After an initial spell in the United States, he managed the Swiss women’s team between 2014 and 2018 before returning to the American programme. Since 2022, he has held the position of head coach, which he left at the end of the 2025-2026 season after thirteen years of involvement.

Under his leadership, the American team has turned a corner, illustrated in particular by the performances of Campbell Wright and the achievement of a first World Cup relay podium. Slovenian officials praised his “expertise, international experience and clear vision of modern biathlon”, as well as his ability to structure a coherent system in conjunction with the clubs.
“We felt that Armin was the right choice for our team. We want to strengthen the links between the national team and the clubs and establish a clear guideline,” said the head of Slovenian biathlon, Tomas Globocnik.
For his part, the Transalpine said he was “very enthusiastic” about joining Slovenia: “It’s first and foremost a feeling. The country is close to home and I’ve heard a lot of good things about this team. I’m discovering a solid group and I’m looking forward to working with the athletes, coaches and clubs. This appointment opens a new chapter for Slovenian biathlon, which aims to consolidate its place on the international stage.
