Peter Magyar: I call on the Serbian people to draw strength from yesterday’s elections in Hungary

The government in which Tisza will have a majority will investigate the alleged attempt to attack the gas pipeline near Kanjiža, said the winner of yesterday’s elections in Hungary and Tisza’s leader, Peter Magyar.
Responding to a question from Serbian media, he said that it is important for him that relations between Serbia and Hungary remain good, mainly because of the Hungarians in Vojvodina, although he assumed who the “godfathers” of the great friendship between Aleksandar Vučić and Viktor Orban, but also Robert Fico, are.
He added that he does not want to interfere in Serbia’s internal affairs, but that he can tell the Serbian people to “draw strength from yesterday’s elections in Hungary,” the Telegraph reports.
During the election campaign, an action resembling a so-called “false flag” operation took place on Easter Sunday, when an alleged attempt to attack the gas pipeline was planned, which Prime Minister Viktor Orban had already spoken about a week earlier, announcing that something like this would happen, Peter Magyar recalled.
“So I can say that it was done quite slowly and it was clear that the organizers backed off from it and did not go as far as their superiors in Russia and Viktor Orban expected. I think they did the right thing, because the Tisza government will investigate what exactly happened, if there was a real danger – because it is possible that there was. But if there was a real danger, then the prime minister should lead the country and not play a role in a show like Viktor Orban on Easter Sunday, who flew in a helicopter and gathered all the Hungarian propaganda in helmets and uniforms to ‘scare’ together,” he said.
In such a situation, the prime minister must guarantee the country’s security, the Hungarian added.
“The citizens of Hungary, like the citizens of Serbia, rightly expect their leadership to ensure security, development and peace. Under the Tisza government, there will be order, peace, security and development in Hungary – that’s what I can say,” he said.
He would be very happy to meet with the Serbian leadership, added Peter Magyar.
“I know exactly what is happening in Serbia and I know what kind of connections there were, are and can be between the Orban government and the Serbia led by (Aleksandar) Vučić, just as I know what kind of connections there are between Robert Fico’s Slovakia and Viktor Orban and I know roughly who is behind these relations, who is the ‘godfather’ of these great friendships,” he added.
However, for the sake of Hungarians living in Serbia, it is very important for Budapest that relations between Serbia and Hungary, which can currently be considered good, remain so and do not depend on individuals, Magyar said.
“I believe that this is in the interest of both the current Serbian leadership and the Hungarians living in Serbia, as well as our own. I am open to cooperation, despite the fact that we probably think differently about the world in many ways than President Vučić or the Serbian leadership. However, the friendship of our peoples and the existing good relations are very important to us. I can say that we will not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. I see for myself what the protests are like and how the authorities treat them,” he said.
He noted that, as he said, “similar to Hungary, independent media in Serbia are in a very difficult situation.”
“What I can say to the Serbian people, without interfering in their internal affairs, is that they should draw strength from yesterday’s elections in Hungary. I also say this to many other countries where people are in a difficult situation, where there is a so-called hybrid regime, that is, where there is no full rule of law: it is possible, it is really possible if people unite. We Hungarians have experienced this many times throughout history. If we unite, we can progress even in the most difficult circumstances and achieve success. Yesterday was exactly that – we showed that despite all the obstacles and international support that Viktor Orbán had, from practically the entire global political elite – the Russian president, the American president, the Chinese president, the Turkish president, the Israeli prime minister, as well as many other leaders like Vučić and Robert Fico – the Hungarian people said that the history of Hungary was written by Hungarians in Hungary and the Hungarian people won,” the Hungarian said.
Despite everything, he says, he is happy to meet and talk, to be present and to collaborate, he added.
“And I will do the same with the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, despite the fact that they fully supported Viktor Orbán’s campaign, contrary to the views of many Vojvodina Hungarians who said they wanted to decide for themselves who to vote for. We thank all Vojvodina Hungarians who voted for us, but I can tell all Hungarians, including those abroad, that they can count on the Tisza government. They will receive the same support as before, they will retain dual citizenship and the right to vote, but the money they received will no longer be mainly appropriated by people close to Viktor Orbán, but will actually reach Hungarians – whether in Vojvodina, Transylvania or Romania,” he told the diaspora.
