WEST VIRGINIA (WCHS) — Hunters looking to bag a bird this spring will soon be heading into the woods of West Virginia.

The state’s spring turkey season begins Monday, April 20 and runs through Sunday, May 24, according to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

A special youth season for hunters under 18 is scheduled for April 18 and 19.

The DNR provided specifics for the 2026 season:

  • Hunters 15 and up require valid W.Va. hunting license
  • Bag Limit: One bearded bird per day, season limit of two
  • Hours: Hunting permitted 30 minutes before sunrise until 1 p.m.
  • Equipment: Firearms, bows and crossbows permitted
  • Electronic calls and hunting over bait prohibited
