The Central Labor Inspectorate has found serious violations of occupational safety and health conditions at a workplace in Fushë Kosovë, ordering the immediate cessation of work until the required measures are met, reports Ekonomia Online.

According to inspectors, significant deficiencies in basic safety conditions for workers have been identified in this facility, including problems with scaffolding, unsafe spaces, and a lack of relevant documentation.

The inspector who supervised the works at this facility, Gëzim Sahiti, said that a series of irregularities were found that directly endanger the lives and health of workers.

“It has been found that safety and health measures at work are lacking. Including the skeleton, including the spaces that will be cleaned, the elevator spaces will be closed, as well as the scaffolding control. So, a check of the scaffolding will be carried out so that it is safe for work during this workplace. The stairs will be reinforced, not just the reinforcement as they are installed. Also, each space will be cleaned so that the workers feel safe while walking, as we saw a little earlier. We will now draft a report based on this situation, we will leave the report, we will ascertain so that within the stipulated deadline you can take measures. And until the measures are taken, work is not allowed. As for the documentation, you have these three days to bring us the documentation related to the part of the investor-employer relationship, the medical checks for the workers, as well as all the documentation that we will write to you: the risk assessment and all, the training of workers,” he said.

He added that during the inspection it was noticed that the works were being carried out without any safety standards.

“So today we are conducting an inspection of the facility. From this we are continuing an inspection all the way up. We saw that safety measures have not been taken at all. So there are many measures that need to be taken and the work that is being done here is not safe for the workers. We will now draft a report, and from this moment on, the work is prohibited. I wanted to ask you, have you had any inspections of this facility before?”, he said.

On the other hand, the company’s construction engineer asked the inspectors to allow part of the work to continue to avoid damage.

“Is it possible to continue (installing the plaque), since (if work is stopped today) the damage is irreparable,” he said.

However, the inspector refused this request, emphasizing that worker safety is an absolute priority.

“Above all, it’s the health of the workers, the lives of the workers,” he replied.
