The fifth edition of the popular Pizza Festival Zagreb has officially opened, transforming Trg dr. Franje Tuđmana into a vibrant hub of food, music and entertainment.
Running from 16 to 26 April, this year’s festival is the biggest and most diverse yet, featuring 12 food houses, 47 different pizzas and a packed programme designed to appeal to all generations.
From the moment it opened at noon under sunny skies, the aroma of wood-fired ovens filled the air, signalling the start of what has become one of Croatia’s standout street food events.

The festival brings together some of Croatia’s most respected pizzaiolos and culinary names, showcasing a wide range of styles, from traditional Neapolitan to contemporary and regional interpretations.
Among the highlights is OMERTÀ Pizza Contemporanea, led by Enes Hrnjić, who impressed visitors with his refined dough and the “Double Cross Margherita”, inspired by renowned Italian pizzaiolo Franco Pepe.

Pizza Re presented a classic slow-fermented Neapolitan base, while creative combinations such as Alpine-inspired toppings added depth to the offering.
Elsewhere, Pizza Social Club delivered bold, modern flavours, and Come to Mama stood out with its Roman-style ultra-thin, crispy pizzas topped with premium ingredients including aged beef and truffle cream.

A strong Croatian identity was also evident. Pizza z placa, led by chef Mario Mihelj, introduced regionally inspired pizzas celebrating flavours from Slavonia and Istria.

Visitors seeking something different could turn to Striky Pizza’s light and airy pinsa creations, while Butler impressed with a refined take on the classic Bufalina.

One of the festival’s most talked-about offerings comes from Pizza Fritta, introducing Zagreb audiences to traditional Neapolitan fried pizza, still a rarity on the local scene.
The festival experience extends well beyond pizza. This year, Birra Moretti joins as the official beer partner, complementing the food selection, while cocktail stands such as Ginglebells offer refreshing options including Basil Smash and spritz variations.

Desserts are led by pastry chef Juraj Klepić, whose “Napuljska Babà” provides a sweet finish with rum syrup, ricotta cream and berry elements.

Over the years, Pizza Festival Zagreb has evolved beyond a typical street food event. Its success lies in combining high-quality gastronomy with an engaging programme.

Families, after-work visitors and evening crowds alike are catered for, with workshops, live music and interactive events running throughout the 11 days.
Highlights from the opening weekend include music by RNB Confusion DJs, guest appearances from internationally recognised pizzaiolos, and a children’s pizza-making workshop organised in partnership with METRO Hrvatska.
