Slovakia plans to file a lawsuit with the EU court in the coming days to ban the import of Russian gas.

Reuters reports this.

Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the government considers such a decision a violation of the basic principles of the European Union.

According to him, issues of sanctions and foreign policy should be decided unanimously, not by majority vote.

Fico clarified that the lawsuit is planned to be filed by April 27.

Previously, a similar step was taken by Hungary, which also opposes restrictions on Russian gas imports.

Despite the EU’s policy of phasing out energy from Russia, Slovakia and Hungary continue to receive Russian gas.

As previously reported, Slovak police have launched an investigation into Prime Minister Robert Fico on suspicion of treason and a number of other crimes. One of the reasons was the termination of emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.

As a reminder,Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the country may block a European Union loan for Ukraine worth 90 billion euros.
