Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger said on Friday, during a meeting with her Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shaibani, that a peaceful and stable Syria is also in Austria’s interests.
Meinl-Reisinger met her Syrian counterpart al-Shaibani on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026.
She had held a productive meeting with al-Shaibani, Meinl-Reisinger stated on the US social media company X following the meeting.
A peaceful and stable Syria is also in Austria’s interest, she said, adding that a functioning administration and economic prospects in the country would form the basis for long-term stability, giving people in Syria hope for the future while also making the return of refugees possible.
World leaders and senior government officials convene in Türkiye from April 17 to 19 for the fifth edition of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, a major international gathering in the southern Mediterranean city focused this year on managing global uncertainty.
The forum, held under the auspices of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and hosted by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, will center on the theme “Mapping Tomorrow, Managing Uncertainties.”
