The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has strongly condemned and rejected the resolutions adopted on April 16, 2026 by the Chambers of Representatives of Belgium and the Netherlands, which undermine the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, Milli Majlis told in a statement, APA reports.
According to the statement, these documents distort the history of the conflict, demonstrate an anti-Azerbaijan and Islamophobic stance, violate international law, and hinder peace in the region. The adoption of the resolutions during the meeting of the speakers of the Azerbaijani and Armenian parliaments further highlights their provocative nature.
The statement particularly noted that the Belgian resolution contains no information about the Washington Peace Summit and the initialing of the peace agreement. Claims about a “risky” situation on the border also contradict reality, as no incidents have been recorded over the past two years.
Presenting individuals convicted of war crimes as “prisoners of war” and demanding their release is contrary to international law. The trials of these individuals have been deemed lawful by international mechanisms, while the International Court of Justice and the UN Working Group have rejected claims against Azerbaijan.
The Milli Majlis called on Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as the European Union, to refrain from disruptive interference in the peace process and to put an end to such provocative steps. It was emphasized that such actions only encourage revanchist forces and harm the interests of the European Union in the region.
