Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday honored those who resisted the military dictatorship that overthrew the Greek government on April 21, 1967, in a message marking the 59th anniversary of the coup.
“Today, our country honors those who resisted the junta and responds to that painful experience by experiencing and capitalizing on the longest period of normality and progress in our modern history,” he said in a post on his official Facebook account.
“Despite the difficult international environment and the internal problems that come from the past, Greece is moving forward. Knowing full well, however, that the benefits of Democracy and Parliamentarianism are never self-evident or given.”
