Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro told visiting Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai that Portugal is eager to see new investments from Macau and mainland China establishing a foothold in the country.

Montenegro welcomed Sam in a meeting held in Lisbon on Tuesday, on the fourth and final day of the Chief Executive’s visit to Portugal. The Portuguese head of government added that Portugal would further deepen exchanges and collaboration with Macau in judicial cooperation, cultural and tourism development, Portuguese language promotion, and high-level talent development, aiming for mutual growth and shared benefits.

He also expressed the hope that both sides would actively engage in consultations to convene the next meeting of the Macau-Portugal Joint Committee at an early date, in order to advance practical cooperation across multiple fields.

In turn, Sam Hou Fai stressed that the MSAR Government welcomes Portuguese companies to expand their operations in the city and, through the SAR’s platform, participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to access the Chinese mainland market.
