LEESBURG, Fla. — Leesburg’s Bikefest is a weekend many business owners look forward to. The crowds, the motorcycles, and the financial boom it brings to the city and small businesses create a highly anticipated atmosphere each year.
What most people don’t know is each year, this weekend brings in millions of dollars to the local economy, helping small businesses and the city get an economic boost. One business owner says they’ve been preparing for weeks to make a lasting impact on their visitors.
“We opened in April of 2024. This is going to be our 3rd Bikefest,” said James Lent, owner of Marmaduke’s Lodge. “This event really gets us. It helps us boost up our summer months and helps us get through that time.”
City leaders say the turnout is significant.
“We expect at least 70,000 to 100,000 people in and out of downtown this weekend,” said Travis Rima, Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Leesburg.
Rima says the weekend brings in a little over $40 million. What started 29 years ago in a small but impactful way has grown into something nationally recognized.
“It started in one parking lot right next to where our library now is and it has grown to where it is now,” Rima said.
From riding and walking down the streets to supporting the local economy, small business owners like Lent are ready to welcome visitors with open arms.
“We love doing it we love taking care of people,” Lent said.
Bikefest continues through Sunday. Officials encourage visitors to stay safe, watch their surroundings and share the road so everyone can enjoy a fun and safe weekend.
