RVO, a Netherlands-based government agency, has reported facade PV opportunities for two building types in the Netherlands. The study found an estimated 36 GWp of facade PV space on offices, commercial buildings, schools, and other non-residential utility buildings. Less than 0.1% of all Dutch solar panels are currently installed on facades, according to RVO. The research reviewed BAPV panels, which are attached to facades rather than integrated into building envelopes. Buildings with full or unsuitable roofs are relevant when east or west facades support morning or evening electricity needs. Buildings with visual-design requirements can use coloured or patterned panels to align facade PV with their appearance. RVO said support under the Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition (SDE++) scheme is available for east- or west-facing facade PV projects on business premises.
