The war in Iran and broader developments in the Middle East were the focus of talks Wednesday between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Maximos Mansion, the Greek government said.
According to a government statement, Mitsotakis underscored Greece’s role as a “force of stability” and a reliable partner in the region, stressing the need for a diplomatic solution to the crisis that would ensure lasting and sustainable peace.
He also emphasized the importance of fully safeguarding freedom of navigation, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.
Discussions further addressed the situation in Lebanon, including the need to support the Lebanese government, maintain the ceasefire, and pursue a peace agreement that would strengthen security and stability in the region, the statement said.
The two sides also agreed to deepen and expand bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, energy, connectivity, defense, agri-food products, culture and education.
During the visit, Greece’s Ministry of Rural Development and Food and Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation.
Investment prospects in Greece were also discussed, with a focus on infrastructure, data centers, energy and hospitality, according to the statement.
