The Korean National Police Agency(KNPA) has decided to expand a South Korea-Cambodia joint task force on eradicating crimes targeting Korean nationals by criminal organizations based in the Southeast Asian country.

The decision was reached during a meeting in Seoul on Wednesday between the national police agency’s Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jae-seong and his Cambodian counterpart Sar Thet.

With the decision, the so-called “Korea Desk” will not solely focus on tackling online scams but will also investigate drug and online gambling cases.

Since its launch last December, the Korea Desk has made 166 arrests as of March.

The KNPA also decided to share its investigative techniques and public safety systems with Cambodia.

In a bid to enhance Cambodia’s crime scene investigation and forensic science capabilities, the Korean police agency will launch an official development assistance program worth 18 billion won, or some 12 million U.S. dollars, together with the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
