Rise of right-wing parties is thanks in part to urban-rural divide exposed by recent fuel protests

    This was coming. Independent Ireland’s record rise to 9pc and Aontú’s record high of 7pc in today’s Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks poll represent a moment in Irish politics.

    While Fine Gael remains stable and Fianna Fáil is down two points, a section of their former voters who had declared themselves undecided since the last election has swung in behind the two newer parties.
