The Lithuanian railway is now completely destroyed due to lack of investment and the situation will only get worse. This was stated in the Lithuanian railway workers’ union “Solidarnost” (Solidarumas) in connection with the recent accidents on the railway tracks, which followed one another.

“We can say that the railway is now completely destroyed and the situation will only get worse. Serious investments should have been made earlier — nothing can be done in a week, rails and roads need to be maintained year after year,” said Stanislav Fedaravicius, chairman of the trade union.

He also drew attention to the shortage of employees in the industry.

“People work 24 hours a day, although they have to work 12 hours, and others work 16 hours a day,” said the chairman of the trade union.

Recall, on the morning of May 1, three train cars derailed in the Kedainiai district of Lithuania. Late in the evening on Saturday, May 2, four freight train cars and a locomotive derailed in the Kaunas region of Lithuania. Train traffic stopped not only on domestic, but also on international routes. The incident affected transit trains from Kaliningrad.
