CHERRY POINT, N.C. (WITN) – The Navy is looking for public comment surrounding its draft environmental assessment on relocating Phoenix-based aircraft.
The Navy released the environmental assessment, or EA, surrounding the home basing and operation of E-130J Phoenix II aircraft at Cherry Point Air Station.
The assessment is in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and Department of Defense NEPA Implementing Procedures.
The Navy says the home basing of the aircraft would support national defense requirements by expanding capacity for the strategically important mission.
In addition to home basing the aircraft, construction of the needed facilities to support the aircraft, and the stationing of 1,000 personnel and their families would take place.
A digital copy of the EA can be found here. A paper copy is also available at certain libraries in ENC, including the New Bern Public Library, Havelock Public Library and Morehead City Public Library.
Comments must be postmarked or received online no later than May 31st to be considered in preparation for the final EA.
Online comments can be made through the project’s website, and written comments can be mailed to E-130J Aircraft Home Basing EA Project Manager, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Atlantic, Attn: EV21JB, 6506 Hampton Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia 23508.
