A planned Unity Hub in Stockholm aims to give Ukrainians clear status guidance and reintegration options, while digital services will support voluntary return planning.

During a meeting between Denys Ulyutin and the Swedish Minister for Migration Johan Forssell, the directions of the future Center for Ukrainian Unity in Stockholm were discussed, along with support for Ukrainian citizens abroad and mechanisms for their future reintegration.

According to data from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity, the meeting took place within the framework of the Second International Migration Forum (IMRF).

“We view the Center for Ukrainian Unity in Stockholm as a practical instrument that will help Ukrainians obtain clear information about their status and opportunities in Sweden. In addition, it will help maintain contact with Ukrainian services, receive information about return – without pressure, but with facts, and also see real opportunities in Ukraine: work, communities and available programs”

Strategy and status of Ukrainians in Sweden

During the meeting, the parties drew attention to the future status of Ukrainians in Sweden in the context of the winding down of temporary protection in March 2027, underscoring the importance of a joint and well-grounded stance given the security situation in Ukraine.

Also discussed were approaches to the reintegration of Ukrainians after returning: a key factor is access to housing, work, and basic services. According to the minister, Ukraine is already developing the corresponding tools within the framework of its policy to support internally displaced persons.

During the meeting, Ulyutin informed Sweden that the ministry is working on developing digital services that will allow Ukrainians to plan their return in advance. The presentation of such a planning tool is planned during the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026), which will take place on 25–26 June in Gdańsk.

    Future steps and expectations

In April, a declaration was signed confirming the intention to open the Center for Ukrainian Unity in Stockholm. The opening of the Unity Hub in Sweden is expected this summer. The Center will serve as a platform to maintain connections with Ukrainians abroad, provide verified information for informed decisions about the future, strengthen social cohesion, exchange information, and facilitate community engagement.

The anticipated opening of the Center for Unity underscores the joint efforts of the two countries to support Ukrainians abroad and strengthen their future.
